MG Comet EV: 230 km range in 3.5 hours charge, new surprise in country's cheapest electric car

The main problem with electric cars is that they take longer to charge. To get rid of this irony, fast charging tech has emerged as useful as smartphone fast chargers.

MG Comet EV, the country's cheapest electric car, was so far only available with a slow charger. But this time the car has come to the market with fast charging technology. The feature is available on Excite FC and Exclusive FC variants. The prices have been kept at Rs 8.24 lakh and Rs 9.14 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.

Added to MG Comet EV is fast charging technology

The new FC model replaces the previous Push, Play and Pace as Executive, Excite and Exclusive. The addition of 7.4 AC fast charging reduces the charging time to 3.5 hours. Where previously it took 7 hours to fully charge the battery with a 3.3 KW AC charger. However, the 17.3 kWh battery pack will give the same 230 km range on a full charge.

The fast-charging variants have got some new features. Like – Rear Disc Brake, Electronic Parking Brake, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Hold Control, Body Color Finished Electric Foldable Rear View Mirror and Creep Mode.

Comet EV's top spec variant Exclusive FC will cost Rs 56,000 more than before. The two-door electric hatchback will produce a maximum of 42 bhp and 110 Nm of torque from its electric motor. The top variant now comes equipped with more features to boost the Tata Tiago EV. However, as before, the executive variant i.e. the base model can be bought for Tk 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
