Edible Battery: World's first, invention of battery that can be eaten, surprise to know

Just as we need oxygen to survive, the role of batteries is very important to keep various machines, gadgets, devices etc.

necessary – from watches, torches to phones even when living beings need battery support. But as different things are, their battery size, nature is also different. But so can any battery be consumed? Yes, it is possible in this technological life, at least the latest research of scientists says so. In fact, inspired by biological redox reactions occurring inside living organisms, Italian researchers have created the world's first fully edible rechargeable battery. This battery can be used as well as consumed. Surprised to hear? So let's know the whole story about this amazing discovery.

What are the characteristics of the battery?

People are always amazed by the new wonders of science. In that case, a new edible rechargeable battery research report from Italy's Institute of Technology and University of Salento (IIT) has been published in the journal Advanced Materials 'An Edible Rechargeable Battery'. The IIT researchers here say they have developed this battery (which has never been seen before) based on a biochemical redox reaction with riboflavin vitamin B2, which is naturally found in almonds, and quercetin, a dietary supplement present in capers. As a result, playing this battery will not cause any problem in the human body.

Besides, this new type of battery has two electrodes. It uses charcoal to supply current, with separators to protect against short-circuits. Activated charcoal is added to the electrode material of this battery to increase electrical conductivity, and a solution of sodium hydrogen sulfate or edible salt is used for its electrolyte water. Incidentally, the edible battery can be recharged multiple times. Its open-circuit output will offer 650 millivolts (650mV), the IIT researchers said.

This battery will be used in children's toys

Now you ask the question why eat the battery? In that case, let's say, there is a possibility of various damages to the body from ordinary batteries. But this new battery cell will work at 0.65 volts, meaning its voltage will be so low that it won't hurt if someone accidentally eats it. And since the battery is made from food and is rich in vitamins, it can also satisfy hunger when needed in addition to normal use. IIT researchers say, this battery can be used in children's toys.
