Foldable phone technology is now in laptops, the world is waiting for Samsung's new surprise

There are rumors in the tech world that Samsung is working on a foldable laptop with cutting-edge technology.

And now a new source has revealed that the South Korean company is planning to use a unique waterdrop hinge mechanism, called the Flex Hinge, in this slim foldable laptop. This laptop may be launched in the latter half of next year. Let's get into this in detail.

Samsung's flex hinge is now going to be used in laptops as well

First of all, this waterdrop design called Samsung Flex Hinge was already launched with the company's latest foldable smartphones, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. And now a report from The Elec claims that Samsung will include this hinge mechanism in their first foldable laptop. This waterdrop hinge allows the axis to move when the device is folded, allowing the screens to fit tightly and reduce creases between the skins. The new hinge could make the laptop slimmer, though with durability in mind, Samsung might keep the device a little chunkier.

Despite the attractive design, experts have questioned the need for a waterdrop hinge in a foldable laptop. Smartphones held close to the eyes and foldable laptops are very different from each other. As laptops are relatively heavier than mobiles, U-shaped hinges can be more effective in this regard. An expert said that the use of waterdrop hinges on laptops may not be very convenient for users.

Moreover, LG has already launched a foldable laptop called Gram Fold. And given the current challenges in the IT industry, Samsung's decision to wait for the launch of the said laptop is believed to be strategic. It is expected to be unveiled in the latter half of next year.

Note that the OLED panel of Samsung's upcoming laptop is expected to be supplied by Samsung Display or China's BOE Technology Group. On the other hand, Apple is also rumored to be working on a foldable MacBook, which could launch in 2026.
